“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans”

— John Lennon

(Well actually John Lennon used this quote in his song “Beautiful Boy,” but he took it from an article written by Allen Saunders in Readers Digest 20 years earlier.)  Regardless, it reminds us that planning is important in helping us keep a direction and purpose to each day.  But plans alone do not represent the multitude of energetic life living actions.

So often we are distracted from an important experience and component of our lives which is right in front of us because we are heads down and mentally present somewhere else.   We are often looking at and waiting for the next experience, when the one that we have is right here, right now.

In the song, Lennon is thinking ahead of all that will need to happen to raise his young son, but then he remembers to just be present and hold his hand while they are crossing the street.  A simple act, but lived in the moment, not missed or wasted by thinking about what is ahead and especially what is not in their control.

We also know that, unfortunately, John Lennon’s life was cut short soon after this song was recorded, bringing even more focus on not thinking too much about the unknown future, but staying present in every moment.  There has rarely been a time where that is more evident than it is in our world at this moment in our lifetimes.

Try not to miss out on all that is here for you right now by worrying, planning, and focusing on “As soon as….” or “When we can again…..”  Keep focus on what is here and important and possible, right now!!

What part of life are you not giving close enough attention to right now?   What plans are you focused on that may be getting in the way of true action?
