The Edge
Do you remember the last time someone made a comment to you and it instantly made something in your mind come into clear focus – something that before was not crisp in your thoughts? One of my colleagues would call that an “A-Ha Moment.”
I did recently as I was sharing some weekend plans with my coach. I told her that we were taking some time at the end of the summer to relax at the beach. She then said she loved the beach and shared that it was refreshing to her because it was a place that had “an edge.” An edge?? Yes!! It came instantly clear to me – that is what I found so enthralling about the beach too!! You are at the edge of your surroundings, with the special chance to look out and look across, full of thoughts of opportunity and unfilled space ahead. When you are inland, there is no edge – everything just goes on around you, unending, so to speak.
I instantly loved this thought, and this way of describing my feelings at the beach truly resonated for me. I often sit on the shoreline and soak in the openness of it all. My best reflection comes there – at The Edge. I feel so present. In a way, it feels so timeless. The thoughts of my next move or my to-do list are slowed and become so much clearer.
The Edge always refreshes me and puts me in a place of “what’s next?” Steady as she goes with my current plans? Time to stride ahead strongly with a new plan? Or do I need to veer right or left? Whatever the action, the thing I don’t do is focus on what is behind me. I am glad it is there; it has brought me to here, but now I am ready to look out ahead.
Its all clear now, at The Edge!
